Phillips Zoom Day White ACP Tooth Whitening Gel Kit Review
With that change there has also been a change to the teeth whitening formula. The previous version of the kit – Day White Excel – contained 38% Carbamide Peroxide, and due to the problems of extreme sensitivity that the kit caused, a sensitivity relief gel is now included.
How to use the Phillips Zoom Day White ACP Tooth Whitening Gel kit
The kit contains three syringes of Hydrogen Peroxide bleaching gel plus an accelerator to speed up the whitening action. Each syringe contains enough gel for three applications of 15-30 minutes each; however may find that unless you have small teeth, you will need more gel than the instructions state. The kit requires two of these treatments a day, one in the morning and one in the evening. The kit must be used for 9 consecutive days for the full effect.
The 9-day treatment time is an issue with such a strong product, and to preserve gum health breaks may need to be taken every two days. This increases the treatment time to well over two weeks.
Requires professionally made mouth trays
When high concentration Hydrogen Peroxide is used in teeth whitening at home kits there is a very real danger of terrible sensitivity developing and major irritation of the gums. To ensure the gel does not leak and irritate the soft tissues in your mouth you need to visit a dentist to have custom mouth trays made to fit your teeth exactly. This makes the Day White ACP treatment very expensive and the cost of the gel syringes is also much higher than competitor brands. The total cost is likely to be well over the $200 mark.
The verdict on the Day White ACP Teeth Whitening Treatment
The kit is billed as containing the strongest concentration of Hydrogen Peroxide on the market which is great for teeth whitening. However these “professional grade” kits can be very bad for your teeth and gums, causing extreme sensitivity, bleeding and bleaching of the gums. If your gums turn white the effect is temporary and should last only for a few days after treatment stops. Even though the gel is strong, the minimum 15-minute twice daily treatments are not enough and two 30-minute sessions are required to achieve a good whitening effect.
The syringes are a good way to apply the gel – much better than ampules – but these models tend to stick a little bit, making it difficult to get an even line of gel in the mouth trays. The syringe caps do not fit very well so gel can easily leak out resulting in some wastage.
Due to the problems with tooth sensitivity, burning gums and the additional cost of having professional trays made, this treatment is very expensive. That said, the whitening effect is good and you should improve your teeth by 2-3 shades. However, there are kits on the market which are just as effective but kinder on your teeth and gums, which do not require professional mouth trays.
